The terrorist attack at #Kabul airport has placed a greater spotlight on the hasty U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. U.S. and NATO forces now only control the airport, leaving the Taliban responsible for entry into the airport. The chaos at the airport has been heightened by the division of responsibility between U.S. forces, keen only on the evacuation, and the Taliban, who have to transit from being insurgents to governing the country. Terrorist groups like ISIS-K have capitalized on inherent vulnerabilities in this environment.

As the August 31 deadline for the U.S. withdrawal looms ever closer, over 1,000 U.S. citizens remain stranded throughout the country. With an orderly evacuation already impossible, can the U.S. and Taliban reach a temporary solution to prevent more terrorism amidst the withdrawal?
