A woman was battered by huge slabs of freshly fallen snow that slid from the roof as she approached her home on November 7 in Langfang, Hebei Province in northern China. CCTV footage showed the woman gingerly treading through the snow-covered path to her door when an avalanche of snow suddenly came tumbling down, with great blocks of it striking her head. She escaped the incident with no injuries, although she was reportedly left in a state of shock. Large parts of northern China, including Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, and Inner Mongolia, have this month been hit by freezing temperatures and the first snowfall of the year. It has sparked highway closures and flight and train cancellations. Forecasters said the winter weather struck around a month earlier than usual due to the climate phenomenon known as La Niña.
