ABC News (Australia) published this video item, entitled “Telling war stories through textiles at new art exhibition | ABC News” – below is their description.
They’re beautiful and intricate but these rugs tell sad and bloody war stories.
Afghan weavers have long depicted their surroundings using traditional hand-knotted carpets – and amid decades of war – helicopters, tanks and especially Kalashnikovs have made their way onto textiles.
‘The War Rugs of Afghanistan’ is currently exhibiting at the ANU Drill Hall, with many women refugees responsible for the rare pieces that can take many months or longer to create.
