Teenage pregnancies up in Africa due to COVID pandemic | DW News

DW News published this video item, entitled “Teenage pregnancies up in Africa due to COVID pandemic | DW News” – below is their description.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the lives of many young girls. For months, schools were closed in hundreds of countries. As a result, there’s been a rise in teenage pregnancies. The NGO World Vision says as many as one million girls across sub-Saharan Africa may not return to school due to pregnancy.

Teenage pregnancy rates are also rising in Rwanda, partly due to gender norms that put all the weight of preventing pregnancy on girls. One woman is trying to change things. Entrepreneur Abi Gaelle Gisubizo, the CEO of DopeApps, aims to educate teenagers about sex with a video game starring a girl named Keza.
