Tasmania’s public health authorities recommend people in quarantine test for coronavirus | ABC News

It will be “strongly recommended” people staying in quarantine hotels in Tasmania have voluntary coronavirus tests at days five and 12 of their stay.

But the government has stopped short of making testing compulsory.

On Monday, Tasmania recorded its first new coronavirus case in 65 days. A young Tasmanian woman is recovering in hospital from the virus after testing positive in a Hobart hotel.

No close community contacts have been identified but as a precaution other guests and staff at the hotel will be checked for symptoms and offered testing.

There are about 700 people in nine hotels around the state.
