What does the religion of Islam have to do with the terrorist attacks here in the last three months and before that elsewhere in Europe? At London Bridge the attackers shouted: “This is for Allah.” Many Muslims would say these violent attacks have nothing to do with their faith but the words of at least some of the attackers suggest a link to the religion or a perversion of its ideology. Tariq Ramadan, professor of Contemporary Islamic Studies at the University of Oxford and the author of several books on Islamic thought and practice, had this to say in answer to the question.
