    Taliban fighters have seized dozens of districts in Afghanistan, as they step up attacks during the final withdrawal of foreign troops.

    With the withdrawal of US and Nato troops nearing completion, direct foreign intervention in Afghanistan is ending after nearly 20 years.

    The US military left Bagram Airfield – its key base in Afghanistan – in the dead of night without notifying the Afghans, the base’s new commander said.
