Taiwan’s worst drought in 56 years has not only hit households and farmers, it has also affected the global semiconductor supply chain. The island is home to many of the world’s microchip manufacturers. With chip production a water-intensive industry, the drought has deepened concerns about a worsening global shortage of semiconductors amid a surge in demand for consumer electronics during the Covid-19 pandemic.
