DW News published this video item, entitled “Taiwan recruits big tech to bypass China for COVID vaccines | DW News” – below is their description.
Two Taiwanese tech giants have done what the island’s government couldn’t: Secure COVID-19 vaccines made by Germany’s BioNTech.
TSMC, the world’s biggest contract chip maker and Foxconn, which assembles Apple phones will donate 10 million jabs to Taiwan after securing their supply from BioNTech.
A deal earlier in the year between the German company and Taiwan floundered at the last minute. Taiwan’s government alleged it was at the behest of China.
Terry Guo, founder of Foxconn said of the new deal, “This batch of vaccines delivered directly from the German factory I believe will help Taiwanese society to increase confidence and offer respite in the face of the pandemic.”
