United Nations published this video item, entitled “Syrian-Turkish border: Volkan Bozkir (UN-PGA) visits vital UN cross-border humanitarian operations” – below is their description.
“The brutal conflict in Syria has been going on for a decade. It has killed half a million people, forced a majority to flee their homes, and pushed 80 per cent of Syrians into poverty.
Right now, in northwest Syria alone, 3.4 million people desperately need help.
I traveled to the Syrian-Turkish border to see firsthand how the UN is tackling the crisis.
This is one of the most closely scrutinized relief operations in the world.
But I’m concerned that its scale is not sufficient to meet Syrians’ rising humanitarian needs.
We need to expand our efforts. And we need unhindered humanitarian access – especially as COVID-19 vaccinations start in the coming months.
I therefore call on the Security Council to ensure that the vital cross-border operations I saw will continue uninterrupted. We don’t have the luxury to delay. The Syrian people are depending on us.”
