Syrian Army retakes Palmyra citadel, advances against ISIS

The Syrian army has recaptured the historic Palmyra citadel from Islamic state terrorists – achieving a symbolic victory, and gaining a strategic location. The fortress, located on the outskirts of the ancient city, is also seen as an important launching pad for further strikes on ISIS. The offensive to liberate the city, known as the ‘pearl of the desert’, is said to be moving rapidly with Syrian forces continuing to regain more territory from the jihadists.
