Less traffic will be fed into Sydney’s CBD by the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Harbour Tunnel when stage 2 of the Western Harbour Tunnel toll road is complete, says NSW Roads Minister Natalie Ward.
At an announcement held in Balls Head, it was revealed that temporary construction sites at Berrys Bay and Yurulbin Point, and the dredging of the harbour, will no longer be required to construct Sydney’s third harbour crossing. Birchgrove residents have also been told that there will be no temporary impact to their ferry wharf, and the cofferdams won’t be built.
A tunnel boring machine will be used to create the link from Sydney’s lower north shore with the Westconnex tunnels at Rozelle.
“What it will do is enter at Birchgrove and come out at Waverton” – NSW Roads Minister Natalie Ward.
NSW Premier Dom Perrottet says the Western Harbour Tunnel will cut travel times from Sydney Olympic Park to North Sydney by 20 minutes and reduce traffic on the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Harbour Tunnel and Anzac Bridge.
