On December 1, 2022, an Australian zoo released CCTV footage of a rare incident of five lions escaping from their enclosure. The incident occurred in early November, sparking a lockdown and an emergency alert in Taronga Zoo. No one was injured and the lions were later secured. The zoo in Sydney said an investigation into the “failure” of its mesh fencing system is still ongoing.
