The night before its final planned protest, Blockade Australia called an end to its week-long action. Despite only lasting a couple of days, the protests are estimated to have cost the economy millions.
Protester Anne Vickers has walked free on bail after a night in the cells. The 66-year-old is the latest climate change activist charged over this week’s illegal protests in Sydney. She is also accused of intimidating police during raids in Colo last month.
Blockade Australia promised five days of disruption, but only rallied on Monday and Tuesday.
Before the final planned protest, organisers told supporters: “We are tired, but not broken…we have made the hard choice to end the mobilisation and wait until next time when we are bigger and stronger.”
Since the raids, 29 people have been charged. Seven rounded-up at Colo. On Monday, 10 were picked up on day one of protests. And on day two, 11 more were taken in.
