Miami-Dade County and Florida state officials provided an update Wednesday evening on day seven of the search and rescue mission at the site of the Surfside, Fla., condo building collapse.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said two more bodies had been recovered, bringing the death toll to 18. She also advised that two of the victims were children aged four and 10.
Cava also said that the National Hurricane Center is warning of a possible tropical cyclone 5. She added that it’s too early to tell whether it will impact Surfside, but more resources and personnel are being deployed.
A total of 145 people remain unaccounted for while 139 are accounted for. The cause of the collapse is still under investigation.
President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden planned to travel to Surfside, Fla. on Thursday.
