The chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, Osama Rabie, on Monday said that after tug boats refloated the “Ever Given” container ship, which had been blocking the channel for almost a week, it would take three to four days to clear the backlog of 422 ships.
With the 400-metre long ship dislodged, 113 ships were expected to transit the canal in both directions by Tuesday morning, he said.
The ship became jammed diagonally across a southern section of the canal in high winds early on March 23.
