After 13 years in Darfur, the United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) ceased its operations in December 2020. UNAMID was the first joint operation to be created in the UN’s 75-year peacekeeping history. The mission improved security in Darfur, protected civilians, stabilized communities, supported the rule of law and empowered women.
