Astrakhan, one of the Russian southern cities, was hit by a severe sandstorm. Strong wind gusts reached up to 20 meters per second, knocking down trees, road signs and metal structures and cutting down power lines. Two people reportedly were injured, and over 300 homes were left without electricity.
