Arturo Suarez came to the U.S. 25 years ago, planning to earn money and eventually return home. He currently owns a Mexican food business in Los Angeles.
Before the pandemic, his catering shop had eight employees, but now his staff has dwindled to just one employee, his wife and himself. He sells tacos on the street, which is considered illegal by the local health department.
During the pandemic, there have hardly been enough customers, but that’s only one of his worries. Suarez said he not only worries about the deadly virus but also about having his property seized by officers while working on the street.
