Story of Fighting COVID-19: Fighting bulls fall prey to lockdown

Victorino Martin breeds fighting bulls. He said the bullfighting season lasts from March 15 to October 15, and in the offseason, they have no income. The COVID-19 pandemic has led to the cancellation of more than 500 bullfights, representing more than 90 percent of the total number of events, hitting the industry hard.

Martin said the production cost of a bull is estimated at 5,000 euros, but breeders only earn 500 euros for selling the meat. Some of his colleagues are taking their bulls to the slaughterhouse. This is the worst period he has seen in his lifetime. Some bullfighters are worried because they have no income. Martin said the best solution is to get back to normal life as soon as possible.
