Al Jazeera English published this video item, entitled “Sri Lankan health regulator blocks use of China’s Sinopharm vaccine” – below is their description.
Most of the 600,000 doses of China’s Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine sent to Sri Lanka have been put on ice.
The government has not yet approved it for use, so the only people getting jabs so far are Chinese nationals living in Sri Lanka.
The delay is causing displeasure within the government. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and his brother Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa have worked closely with China in recent years.
The president received the shipment of vaccines from the Chinese ambassador in Colombo when it arrived last week.
Al Jazeera’s Minelle Fernandez reports from Colombo, Sri Lanka.
