The Telegraph published this video item, entitled “Sri Lanka crisis: Security forces violently clear protest camp and arrest dozens” – below is their description.
Sri Lankan security forces raided a protest camp occupying government grounds in the main city of Colombo. This comes as the country’s new president is cracking down a day after his swearing-in.
Soldiers armed with assault rifles tore down the camp which was set up in April by protesters. They are enraged by the country’s economic collapse, that has caused severe shortages of fuel, food and medicines.
The police said that the operation was launched by military police and special forces in the early hours to ‘recover the presidential secretariat from protesters’, who were illegally occupying the site.
