    Heavy rain and strong winds are thwarting efforts to prevent a sinking container ship from causing further environmental damage to Sri Lanka’s coastline.

    Officials say most of the 300 tonnes of oil on board would have already burned as the X-Press Pearl sat ablaze for two weeks.

    But environmentalists are still concerned about waves of plastic washing ashore.
