Al Jazeera English published this video item, entitled “Spanish wetlands: Water theft and drought are harming environment” – below is their description.
One of the most important wetlands in the world, Donana National Park in southern Spain is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a refuge for migrating birds and endangered animals.
However, farmers in the area surrounding the wetlands have been pilfering the water, draining its aquifers.
And drought is further taxing its depleted resources.
Al Jazeera’s Natasha Ghoneim reports from Huelva Province, Spain.
