South China Morning Post published this video item, entitled “South Korea’s ‘apocalypse’ vault keeps seeds safe from earthquakes and nuclear blasts” – below is their description.
South Korea’s “doomsday” vault is a seed repository where seeds from the Korean peninsula are safeguarded from apocalyptic events. Hidden 46 metres (151ft) underground in Bonghwa county in North Gyeongsang Province, the tunnel can withstand a magnitude 6.9 earthquake and even a nuclear blast. The 4,751 wild plant species preserved there are intended to only be taken as a last resort to prevent extinction. With a capacity to store 2 million seeds, the facility has space for other countries to deposit more plant species.
