  • Al Jazeera English published this video item, entitled “South Korean island pioneers traffic system for self-driving cars” – below is their description.

The South Korean island of Jeju is testing a tech-based traffic system for self-driving cars, thanks to its use of 5G internet.

The cars, linked through a “smart grid”” will be able to pass information between them and to a centralised control system.

And it is designed to monitor traffic flows and prevent accidents.

Al Jazeera’s Rob McBride reports from Jeju island, South Korea.

South Korea, an East Asian nation on the southern half of the Korean Peninsula, shares one of the world’s most heavily militarized borders with North Korea. It’s equally known for its green, hilly countryside dotted with cherry trees and centuries-old Buddhist temples, plus its coastal fishing villages, sub-tropical islands and high-tech cities such as Seoul, the capital.
