South Korea has carried out a test launch of NURI, its first-ever domestically produced space rocket. The rocket carried a dummy satellite for its maiden voyage, but the country has longer-term plans for it, including surveillance, navigation, communications satellites, and even possible Moon exploration.

Sadly, the launch failed to put its payload into orbit this time, however, this is still a major step forward for South Korea’s space programme, and the team behind NURI remain optimistic about future launches, with President Moon Jae-in declaring that ‘The Korea Space Age is approaching’.
