South Korea received its first shipment of the new Pfizer antiviral Covid-19 pill on January 13, 2022. The country plans to begin prescribing the Paxlovid pill to high-risk patients within 24 hours, with a second shipment expected to arrive later this month. The medication, which can reduce hospitalisation rates and deaths by 90 percent based on Pfizer trials, is also said to be effective against the new Omicron variant.
