After North Korea fired an intercontinental ballistic missile over Japan into the ocean, South Korea and US forces carried out military drills as a response to this apparent aggression.

The missile launch caused missile alerts to sound in northern Japan – it was the first firing of a missile over Japan by North Korea since 2017.
