A pair of powerful ex-military Black Hawk helicopters has joined South Australia’s frontline bushfire response this summer but only for 84 days.
The aerial firebombers will replace the recently used Erickson Air-crane and be based in the Adelaide Hills on a multi-year contract to the CFS.
Each helicopter has a top speed of 360km/h and can hold 4,000 litres of water or retardant.
7NEWS was there as a Hawk was put through its paces.
