CGTN published this video item, entitled “South African dance Pantsula carries on township history” – below is their description.
For more:
We go to theaters to see operas and dances, but we often forget that these operas and dances come from the people, the streets, and were once performed in the hutongs, the alleys, and the courtyards. Today, one dance is still thriving in the streets where it was born to resist displacement in black townships of South Africa. CGTN’s Julie Scheier takes us to the town of Gugulethu to learn about Pantsula, one of South Africa’s emblematic dances born out of the country’s apartheid era.
