Bloomberg Quicktake: Now published this video item, entitled “South African City Left Gutted by Days of Deadly Riots, Looting” – below is their description.
People carrying goods out of smashed businesses, damaged shopping centers, debris on the sides of roads, and burnt-out vehicles were seen in Durban, South Africa, and the surrounding areas between July 13 and 16, in footage shared with Storyful.
The unrest, following the jailing of former President Jacob Zuma, left 117 people dead and over 1,400 arrested, the South African government said on July 16. They added that the unrest had caused billions of rands (equivalent to tens of millions of dollars) of damage.
This footage, shared with Storyful by Sean Elgin, shows damage in and around the Watercrest Mall, 14 miles northwest of Durban, and in Mahogany Ridge, 12 miles northwest of Durban. “A tiny glimpse of what we have been through in Durban over the last few days. Chaos, killing, and destruction across the whole city,” Elgin wrote.Bloomberg Quicktake: Now YouTube Channel
