South Africa: Communities come together to clean up after looting

The Telegraph published this video item, entitled “South Africa: Communities come together to clean up after looting” – below is their description.

Protests that led to looting and arson appear to have lulled as communities come together to clean up.

Seventy-two people have died and more than 1,200 have been arrested in the violence that began after former president Jacob Zuma was jailed for refusing to testify to a corruption enquiry last week.

Over-stretched police have struggled to respond and in many towns and villages local civilians armed with guns, clubs, and knives have taken to enforcing their own law and order.

The scale of the destruction that has gripped the provinces of Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal for nearly a week is difficult to calculate, although it almost certainly runs into millions, if not billions, of dollars.
