Sir Philip Rutnam’s resignation ‘extraordinary’ and ‘unprecedented’ says former UK Civil Service Head

Lord Kerslake, the former head of UK Civil Service has called the recent resignation of Sir Philip Rutnam “extraordinary” and “unprecedented”. According the the UK’s Daily Telegraph:

The resignation of senior Home Office civil servant Sir Philip Rutnam has been described as ‘extraordinary’ and ‘unprecedented’ by Lord Kerslake, the former Head of the Home Civil Service.

Sir Philip resigned on television and announced he would sue the government after clashing with Home Secretary Priti Patel. Lord Kerslake said he wouldn’t have done so unless he had been ‘pushed to the limit’.

Sources close to former Home Secretary Amber Rudd told The Telegraph Sir Philip had a ‘remarkable ability to rub Home Secretaries up the wrong way.’
