Satellite footage of the violent volcanic blast captured the shocking scale of the Hunga Tonga Hunga Ha’apai underwater volcano.
Videos and time-lapses revealed the gigantic ash cloud that shrouds the area, cutting Tonga off from attempted international attempts to surveil and assess the extent of the damage.
The effects of the Pacific eruption have been felt across the world, with tsunami warnings issued from Hawaii to Japan, and a sonic boom heard as far away as Alaska and New Zealand.
