ABC News (Australia) published this video item, entitled “Ship captains claim companies were forced to pay bribes for their release in Indonesia | The World” – below is their description.
Sailing the waters off Indonesia is becoming an increasingly perilous task for ship captains.
Dozens of captains have reportedly been held in local naval bases over the past year after being arrested for anchoring without permits in Indonesian waters, while waiting to enter Singapore.
Most were released after ship owners made unofficial payments to naval intermediaries.
The Indonesian navy says it never requests or receives money to release vessels.
