Global News published this video item, entitled “Shinzo Abe state funeral: Protesters march against official event, say he “indulged in criminality”” – below is their description.
Thousands of protesters marched on the streets of Tokyo on Tuesday, carrying placards and shouting slogans against the state funeral of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who was shot and killed in July.
“The former Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, indulged in criminality and abused his political power. To hold a state funeral for such a person is an outrageous mistake,” 74-year-old protester, Eteru Takahashi, said.
Protest organizers and local media reported that 2,500 people attended the protest, which passed through the Japanese capital’s upscale Ginza district.
The rare state funeral was a divisive issue in Japan, with many people opposed to its $11.5-million price tag paid for by taxpayers, as Japan’s economy faces headwinds.
