Residents of Shanghai are finally starting to emerge from their homes after a sharp decline in new Covid-19 infections in China’s commercial hub prompted city officials to begin to ease lockdown measures. Shanghai has been in lockdown since April 2022, leaving most residents confined to their residential compounds. But while a gradual relaxation of tough restrictions has allowed people to finally leave their homes, a growing number have made the decision to leave the city for good.
