Canadian actor Simu Liu spoke with Global News about his time on set of Marvel Studios “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”, saying every day saw the cast delve into the work of a film that he said was “special” and important and that it was “an amazing time.”
Liu said that being on the film was both fun and incredibly challenging because filming would range from a shoot with various types of rigging for multiple stunts to going to act in a comedy scene with actress Awkwafina. He also spoke about the variety of physical training he had to do, saying while he had previous training through gymnastics and martial arts, being on this film he had to “up that training by a significant amount” in order to play the “Master of Kung-fu.”
He also spoke about how he brought some of his own experience of feeling disoriented when he moved to Canada into the role of Shang-Chi, saying the role was about wanting to live up to his father’s expectations but also live a life meaningful to him. He said those were feelins he wrestled with as a child. Though he added his parents are his “best friends in the world” and were with him for the movie premiere.
