There’s more drama in New South Wales politics with senior Labor figure Walt Secord standing down.
Walt Secord is the first political scalp from the Broderick review that was released on Friday. At least five former politicians or staffers named him in the report, claiming that he was a bully who targeted junior staff, particularly women.
The former shadow police minister has since admitted he had raised his voice at members of Jodi McKay’s staff. The outspoken senior Labor member was instrumental in her removal and the election of Chris Minns to the opposition leader role.
Secord, on Friday, apologised unreservedly if he had caused offence. But over the weekend, he and Chris Minns spoke and it was decided that his position on Labor’s front bench was untenable.
The scandal is a blow to the opposition which has spent weeks capitalising on the turmoil in the government, particularly the sacking of Eleni Petinos who also faced bullying allegations.
