Prime Minister Scott Morrison says Australia will be providing support to Papua New Guinea following a dramatic increase in the number of cases in recent days.
Testing capacity in the developing country is relatively limited and its health care system is on the verge of collapse.
Mr Morrison has announced passenger flights to and from PNG and Cairns will be suspended, a formal request has been sent to AstraZeneca to secure 1 million doses to PNG and extra PPE will be sent to beef up their medical supplies.
