Scott Morrison announces $1,500 fortnightly payment for workers hit by coronavirus crisis

The Australian prime minister, Scott Morrison, has announced a $130bn package aimed at subsidising the wages of workers stood down due to the coronavirus crisis. Businesses will be paid $1,500 a fortnight per employee, as part of the new job keeper allowance. ‘Our scheme is designed to keep people not just in pay but in actual work where that’s possible,’ Morrison said.
