Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski said she is deeply disturbed by the evidence shown by Democrats against former President Donald Trump at his second impeachment trial.

Speaking to reporters during a break Wednesday evening, Murkowski said the Democrats’ presentation was “pretty damning.”

She added: “I just don’t see how Donald Trump could be reelected like this to the presidency again.”

Murkowski voted to advance the impeachment trial, though impeachment managers appear far short of the minimum 17 Republican votes they would need to convict Trump.

Republican Sen. Bill Cassidy also seemed stunned by Wednesday’s proceeding.

“You realize there are people, insurrectionists, who attempted to affect the peaceful transfer of power. And that should give anyone who loves our Republic great pause,” he said.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer also spoke to reporters during the break.

“It was gut wrenching. The bravery of our police officers is incredible. It was compelling,” he said.

“And I just hope that our Republican colleagues have an open mind as they look to seeing what we’ve seen today.”
