The mountains are alive with the sound of rock music in China’s southern province of Guizhou where students in the remote village of Haiga formed a band that has earned some respect from the nation’s top musicians. The group called Haiga Youngsters formed with the encouragement of a teacher who is a rock fan with dreams of using music to open up new horizons for his pupils. The band has improved to the point that it has earned a place on stage with leading Chinese rock acts such as Miserable Faith and New Pants.
