Saskatchewan stabbings: Feds to investigate parole board decision leading to Sanderson’s release

Global News published this video item, entitled “Saskatchewan stabbings: Feds to investigate parole board decision leading to Sanderson’s release” – below is their description.

The Canadian government will investigate a parole board decision to grant freedom earlier this year to Myles Sanderson, who is suspected of a deadly stabbing rampage in Saskatchewan.

Sanderson became the subject of a massive police manhunt after 10 people were killed and 19 injured on the James Smith Cree Nation and in Weldon, Sask. It was later confirmed that Sanderson’s brother Damien, who was also wanted, was found dead.

Canada’s Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino said Tuesday he was “extremely concerned” with the parole board’s decision. Dated Feb. 1, it found that Sanderson would “not present an undue risk” and freeing him would “contribute to the protection of society by facilitating his reintegration.”

Sanderson’s parole records recount almost two decades of crime, as well as drug and alcohol abuse and association with gang members, pimps and drug dealers.

Catherine Urquhart has the details.
