Al Jazeera English published this video item, entitled “Ryanair Afrikaans test: South Africa fury over controversial quiz” – below is their description.
Irish airline Ryanair is drawing outrage with a new test for South African passengers heading to the UK.
It is quizzing them in Afrikaans, a language spoken only by a fraction of the population.
The airline says it asks passengers to write in Afrikaans to prove their passports are not fake.
But the move is causing widespread condemnation in South Africa.
While not a British government requirement, Ryanair has so far refused to say if it will withdraw the test.
Al Jazeera’s Jillian Wolf reports.
