Protests have erupted across Russia in a rare show of defiance against President Vladimir Putin’s “partial-mobilisation” order to the frontlines of Ukraine. Dr Precious Chatterje-Doody, a lecturer in politics and international studies at the Open University, tells The World the protests are very much against the mobilisation rather than the war itself.

As a recognised nuclear-weapon state, the country possesses the world’s largest stockpile of nuclear weapons.
