ABC News (Australia) published this video item, entitled “Russian defector arrested for his own safety after fleeing “terrifying” mercenary group | The World” – below is their description.
Authorities in Norway have arrested a defector from the Russian mercenary Wagner group, after disagreements about his security situation.
Andrei Medvedev has sought asylum, saying he witnessed the executions of people who had also tried to defect from the group.
The US has said it will designate Wagner a “transnational criminal organisation”, saying the shadowy outfit is committing “widespread atrocities” in places like Ukraine, where recruits have been fighting alongside Russian troops.
Isabella Currie has been researching the group, and says it’s hard to know how many are involved or exactly how it operates.
