Russia threatens to target US-led coalition planes in Syria

Russia has said that it will treat all US-led coalition aircraft to the west of the Euphrates River in Syria as “targets” after US forces downed a Syrian warplane.

Moscow’s defence ministry also said that it halted an incident-prevention hotline with Washington, used to avoid clashes on the busy Syrian airspace.

Washington said it will maintain its right to self defence, adding that the Syrian plane in question was dropping bombs near US-backed forces fighting ISIL.

Al Jazeera’s Stefanie Dekker reports from Gaziantep, on the Turkish-Syiran border.
