French President Emmanuel Macron made phone calls to the leaders of Russia and Ukraine on Sunday as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to find a peaceful solution to the escalating crisis in eastern Ukraine.

The talks came on the same day an estimated 30,000 Russian troops had their mission in Belarus extended indefinitely.
